- DON’T believe that the rise in temperature could actually shatter even a flawless windshield. It takes time to generate heat.
- DON’T resort to using wiper liquids said to have special formula to melt the ice faster if your car has windscreen wipers that get activated every time liquid is squirted through nozzles located on the hood. These wiper liquids could damage the wipers whenever they scrape against the ice.
- DON’T spray just any de-icing product onto the windshield. Be cautious.
- DON’T throw hot, especially boiling, water over the windshield. It will definitely crack.
- DON’T scrape the ice by using sharp objects. You don’t want to scratch, or worse, crack the windshield, do you?

- DO select your ventilation system’s DEFROST mode.
- DO be patient when using your DE-ICER to melt the ice that formed on the windshield.
- DO remember that the warm temperature these tools produce could cause the expansion of windshield cracks.
